In recent years, automatic writing has formed an ever more central role in my artistic practice. I love playing with language as a means of entering a flow state, often writing dozens upon dozens of spontaneous short phrases at a time, surprising myself with ever more unexpected combinations.
In this series (the title itself an outcome of a writing session), I selected six of my favourite phrases and placed these digitally over photos and textures which themselves contain elements of unexpected or accidental beauty. These consist of scraps that I’ve found lying around the studio, my painting palettes, other by products of my painting process, and photographs.
It’s my hope that by combining these two thematically related elements that they elevate and accentuate each other, and that the result is a fresh and uplifting experience for the viewer.
